<p>People who are fortunate enough to have food on the table do not know what it is like to wonder where one&#8217;s next meal is coming from. Many people who are starving do not know whether they have a meal coming or not. Starvation is a problem that is common in both developed and developing countries. It is sad to think about a grown man or woman going hungry, but it is even sadder to think about a child going hungry. Sadly, there are millions of children in the world who go to bed without a meal.</p>
<p>Childhood Starvation Rates Among Palestinians</p>
<p>Studies have shown that approximately one in five Palestinian children are malnourished. This means that approximately 23 percent of Palestinian children are not getting the essential nutrients that are needed for survival. Additionally, over half of Palestinian families have to borrow money just to buy food.</p>
<p>How does starvation affect a person&#8217;s health?</p>
<p>Children who are malnourished are much more likely to suffer from serious illnesses and diseases. They are also more likely to suffer from attention deficit disorder and other behavioral problems. The effects of childhood malnourishment can last well into a person&#8217;s adult years. Studies have shown that women who are malnourished are more likely to suffer from pregnancy-related complications and give birth prematurely.</p>
<p>What is being done to remedy the Palestinian Starvation problem?</p>
<p>*Increasing Awareness* The first step in solving the Palestinian Starvation problem is raising awareness. If people now that starvation is an issue, they will know more about what they can do to solve it.</p>
<p>*Getting Donations from Other Countries*- Many countries have stepped up and started making donations to Palestinian countries. As a result, more adults and children have been able to go to bed on a full stomach.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Good health is something that many people take for granted. Medical care is not readily available for Palestinians and as a result, they have numerous health concerns. Below are a few of the most common Palestine Health Concerns</p>
<p>*Anxiety and Depression*- Health experts have noted that the number of people being diagnosed with anxiety and depression has increased drastically within the past few years. Seventy-three percent of Palestinians who visited a doctor for primary care had symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. Twelve percent of the patients who were diagnosed with anxiety or depression were under the age of 12. These conditions are more prevalent in females.</p>
<p>*Malnutrition*- Studies have shown that over 22 percent of the Palestine population is not getting the proper nourishment. Many of the people who are not getting enough food are children. Half of Palestinian families have to borrow money just so that they can put food on the table. Additionally, more people are decreasing food consumption just so that they can have money for other things. People who are malnourished are at an increased risk for developing numerous health problems. Additionally, being malnourished during pregnancy poses risk for both mother and child.</p>
<p>*Devastating Environmental Conditions*</p>
<p>Many Palestinians live in a detestable environment. Some do not even have access to clean water. Living in an unsanitary environment poses a threat to both physical and mental health.</p>
<p>One of the top concerns for Palestinians is health. Many children and adults are suffering from anxiety and depression due to the traumatic events that they have went through. Many others are living in unsanitary environments and do not have enough food to eat. Increasing awareness about these issues is one of the things that people are doing to help improve the quality of life for Palestinians.</p>

While this is certainly one of the most important questions people can consider in their quest to help make the most impact in their quest to make a difference, it is important that you understand that not all relief agencies may have the same level of effectiveness as others.</p>
<p>Some agencies may have a smaller percentage of their gross donations actually impact the people in dire need. Of course, there is certainly a need for much of the money received during fundraising programs to be used as a means of keeping the problem and program in the forefront of peoples minds; however, it is also crucial that the largest percentage of donations be used to make the greatest impact for those struggling with hunger. Be sure to thoroughly research the organization you choose and work only with the most reputable in helping to solicit other donations and supplies.</p>
<p>Another thing to consider is the fact that it can be easy for people to want to go out and purchase food items or other tangible products, but frequently a monetary donation can be much more effective. One reason donations of money make such a big difference is that supplies can be purchased according to the exact needs of the area being sent aide; however, it also leaves the relief agency the advantage of being able to purchase larger quantities of needed supplies at lower prices.</p>
<p>Single cans of food, or even a case or two, can prove logistically harder to store, stack, move, sort and distribute; whereas, large quantities of known products can much more easily be accounted for, shipped and distributed where needed. One difference with the single item donation method is for local distribution needs. Local food banks will often not have the resources to purchase huge quantities that need to be stored and distributed; they often rely on the generosity of local residents to fill the shelves of their local food banks and this is usually done by direct donations of food products.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Gaza Strip health conditions as of October 17th 2011 are deplorable.  Conflicts in the area have resulted in health care institutions such as hospitals being subjected to a shortage of necessary supplies needed to serve the sick or injured civilians.  There is also an unreliable electical circuit powering these facilities, making it dangerous to perform certain medical procedures.  It should be noted that the IOF has destroyed at least 45 percent of the power supplies in the Gaza Strip.  Furthermore, patients who need immediate treatment abroad are threatened by closed boarder crossing and the inability to travel to the West Bank, Israel, or Egypt for treatment.</p>
<p>Even the basic components of a healthy population, sanitation and clean water, is almost non-existant in the region.  Local villages and municipalities are unable to provide sewage and garbage disposal.  There is a lack of chlorine for drinking water as the IOF has banned the entry of chlorine into the Gaza Strip.  Access to water has also been decreased.  Some areas are only able to receive water for 4-6 hours of a 5 day period.  Due to this, illnesses such as diarrhea, fever, and skin ailments have been on the rise.  These illnesses increase the possiblity of the beginning of epidemics in the region that could claim thousands of lives.</p>
<p>Moreover, there is a great lack in modern medical technology and medicines in hospitals.  For example, the neonatal care unit at a hospital in the region reports a shortage of incubators.  For 36 neonatal cases, the unit only had at its disposal 33 incubators.  Supplies of medications that are needed to treat chronic illness such as cancer, kindey failure, and epilepsy have been exhausted.  As the conflicts in the Gaza Strip continues, conditions will only certainly continue to deteriorate and worsen.</p>
